Active Assignment Weekly: June 21-28: Music to Your Ears
Music is personal and extremely important to us all. I believe that photography and music are very closely related.
Assignment: You will choose a lyric(s) from one of your favorite songs to inspire a very specific photographic image. You'll need to tell us what the lyrics are, who sang them, and how your photo relates to the lyrics.
Restrictions: No words may be used in the actual photo; meaning, your
photo may neither contain words from the song you choose, nor any
other words (unless they just happen to be in the photo).
Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly and the Family Stone, 1969.
WIT: A warm sunny day and the kids with a sprinkler and me sitting on the steps with a cold beer. Nearly straight out of the camera. I did some slight dodging around her hands to make them stand out a bit more.
All: End of the spring and here she comes back
Hi Hi Hi Hi there
Them summer days, those summer days
That's when I had most of my fun, back
high high high high there
Them summer days, those summer days
Rose: I "cloud nine" when I want to
Freddie: Out of school, yeah
Larry: County fair in the country sun
Sly: And everything, it's true, ooh yeah
All: Hot fun in the summertime x 4
All: First of the fall and then she goes back
Bye bye bye bye there
Them summer days, those summer days
Rose: "Boop-boop-ba-boop-boop" when I want to
Freddie: Out of school, yeah
Larry: County fair in the country sun
Sly: And everything, it's true, ooh yeah
All: Hot fun in the summertime x 4

Even though the contrast are extremely high here this just juxtaposes the brightness of the sun and its warmth. The sharp drops give a beautiful pattern. And above all technical chit chat this really says "Finally summer is here. Hoooray!" all over it.

Amazing lighting and freezing of the water droplets! I love her shadow but then it draws me to the hose in the grass. Still it is a lovely shot!

Excellent...Backlight, lawn sprinklers,kids...(and a song all of us older kids can relate to).
However, I must admit that the first thing that came into my mind when hearing this song again was a bit less wholesome.

Sonny, you got to get your mind out of the gutter ;)
Yes, the hose could have been cloned out, but I dont mind it as a bit of a leading line and a gentle echo of the shadow shape.

Simple, careless childhood summer fun. That's what it's telling me. Well captured, the jumping child, and the tonal range is great, from the water to the shadow.

Voting this best of week 1, for the idea, the great lighting, the composition, the perfection, and the summer fun.

Really fantastic capture. The highspeed worked so well with the fine water droplets and the highlights. What fun. Her position is perfect.
I'm not sure how to vote anymore. Sometimes I just go with quick gut feelings. But I'd like to give this one an Honorable Mention.
