The last rays

The last rays

The family were enjoying the last rays of warm sunshine while others were packing up and going home.

This was taken on Cottesloe beach, Near Perth, Western Australia. It is usually a surf beach but was quite calm that day. I would still have been wary of taking a dip though as it had been the site of a shark attack quite recently.

Lizard and daisies

Lizard and daisies

This lizard came out from under the house just before we left our holiday home in Denmark, Western Australia. It was quite big- about 18 inches long. I would have been very scared if it was a snake but I quite like lizards so was happy to get as clse as possible to take his photo.

I have been trying to identify this lizard and I think he is a King's skink

Debs- number 37

Debs- number 37

I met this extraordinary lady at Bindoon, a small country town, north of Perth in Western Australia. I was drawn to her by her hair and asked if I could take a photo for my 100 strangers project. She was happy to pose for several photos but I chose this one because it shows her hair so well. I will post another one I like in my Flickr.

She was a very devout Christian and gave me several religious poems she had written, including one called Aged Angel.

I was sorting out my 100 strangers pictures and realised that I had missed out 31 and 37 so I have made Debs number 37.

Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Blue wren

Blue wren

This splendid fairy wren, taken at Yanchep national park, Western Australia was so tiny that I really needed a 400mm lens to get a decent picture. At least this one shows his beautiful colour.

Up for a laugh

Up for a laugh

This kookaburra flew into the garden just as we were about to leave our holiday home in Western Australia. It is a member of the kingfisher family and , as I have never managed to capture a UK kingfisher on camera, I was delighted to get this Aussie cousin. It was the first time I had seen one in the wild.
