Goodbye Nikon D100
From my last morning with my Nikon D100. Goodbye my friend.
No Photoshop on this one.
Many people have been asking why I got rid of my D100 - I traded it in and bought a D200!

Awesome VietNam daily life capturing!
Not so serious, are you? Must the sr. citizen D100 to retire before the terms?

How many accidents happen there?
Cool shot anyway!

So you are not going to keep your D100 anymore. Do you still have your D50? (backup ?).
BTW what drove you to go for a D200? You moved really fast from a D50 to a D200 :)
I think now you can get those awesome MF Micro lens for real cheap and all of them will meter on your D200.
What are the biggest differences (to you) between the D50 and the D200?
Looking forward to more shots from you using your new baby.
Best of luck and enjoy.

Thanks to the Digital Photography Blog I found this beauty. Panning is a great technique, but I use to move my camera too fast!
Putting it to my favs, 'coz the such a nice triangular shot as well.

Good feeling of speed but not sharp at all.
J Catlett (70 months ago | reply)
@ gundunasu u zeneize: ?????? Gee, I wonder if the reason why you're the only person that's made a negative comment about this photo is because I gave you a low score in the MiRea's Realm. Funny, you didn't choose to comment on the photos of any of the previous people that rated your photo.
Two things: Go out and take a photo of a moving object at 1/30 of a second and get a sharper image than this. Take it as a personal challenge to best me in panning. Then we'll talk about sharpness.
Then talk to the 31 people that commented on this photo and the 50 people that have faved it so far, and see if you can convince them of your opinion. I'd have to say you're quite a minority in your opinion.
You asked for people's opinions in a group where detailed comments are required in order to learn what other people see and feel, and to help you improve. When you didn't like what I said you "retaliated" by leaving a lame one liner negative comment, trashing on a photo that is a great execution of a difficult technique. Frankly, I don't see anything in your stream that comes close to it.

These shots are so freaking awesome, I have yet to get a good one my self so I give you major kudos in that respect, I was totally going to Fave this and give you a seven, until I read your comment just above mine, I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and think that you are being a bit defensive in your reply, which you have every right to defend a great photo but after trying to look at a large image, which this only goes to 800, I too notice that its not the sharpest thing in the world, which doesnt matter in a shot like this cause everything is moving, so there is almost no way to get it any sharper than your awesome capture, but I guess the way you snapped back is a little put offish, Anyways great work. Keep it up, Try to let comments from the flickr world just roll of your back like raindrops, they are only just words and you have great photos, no worries.
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 5/7 ranking.
beyond the pale (70 months ago | reply)
well executed panning, nice.
appears relatively sharp given the circumstances, would like to see a larger version.
only other point is would ideally like to have more space to the left side, somewhere for them to go.
maybe even show us a mirror image so they are going left to right instead?
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 6/7 ranking.
J Catlett (70 months ago | reply)
@ G0Da and beyong the pale:
Thanks! This is what I meant about constructive comments. If you see a flaw, make a suggestion. I appreciate what both of you said. My point in getting upset about the other guy's comments were that I didn't give him a great rating, and just a few minutes later he left his comment - the only negative one I've received on this shot. I don't get too upset by Flickr comments, but I really don't appreciate "retaliation comments".
Thanks again, both of you. I really appreciate what you had to say. :-)

Nice blur in this image!
The subject matter is also interesting. I like it
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 7/7 ranking.
ACreepingMalaise (70 months ago | reply)
That doesn't look safe.
Great shot, subject, panning.
I know you had to make a choice between sharpness of the subject and streaking of the background. I think you nailed it.
I wish the subject was sharper, but I would hace to give it an 8/7 if it was. :)
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 7/7 ranking.
renee ansley (70 months ago | reply)
why are you getting rid of such a beautiful camera? this photo is really great - the incredible sense of movement on this is fabulous. Only reason you're half a point out from a perfect score is because I'd like to see a slightly more interesting composition/crop, and maybe sharper detail on the focus.
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 6.5/7 ranking.
Goldmanoz (70 months ago | reply)
this is a nice example of a great technique, have yet to take one like this myself, must remember to give it a go...the triangular makeup of the bike riders is great, love the standing up kid....whats let you down a bit i think is the light, it appears very flat...an overcast day ??/
a lift from some levels would help but i fear it might accentuate the noise in the bg to an unacceptable level....nice work all the same...
From the MiRea's Realm Group, you are given a 5.5/7 ranking.
