Youth is a Flower

Youth is a Flower

I am the father of 5 children - 4 boys and 1 girl. Today is the 16th birthday of my youngest son, Austin. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner tonight and shared gifts with him. Sixteen is such a wonderful time. Do you remember it???? Tomorrow night we are going to a Blake Shelton Concert in celebration!!!

I photographed this rose by candle light this evening after dinner. It is part of a bouquet given to my wife, Kimberly, by a youngster who is a cancer survivor. Kimberly is a physical therapist and has volunteered time with Chip for 18 months or so and developed a very close relationship Chip and his family. Chip sent her flowers and paid for them with his savings.

Chip - we love you and wish you the BEST!

Dormant

Dormant

It was almost a year ago when I photographed this scene. I was on the way to do a photography assignment with a company that operates a plant in Montecello, Georgia. I suppose it's about an hour away to the southeast of Atlanta. It was an overcast day, as you can see, and I came across this pecan orchard. The country road looked straight down the rows as I was driving so I could see the shot. I was alone and a little scared as there was an old vehicle and some men just off camera on the right so I thought I should make my image and move on. I enjoyed the spider web like lines of the upper parts of the trees. I need to return at harvest time : ). I'm sure the pecans are great.

Monticello is a small town. I'm sure the plant I was visiting was one of the largest employers in town. When I got to town I did not know the exact location of the facility so I stopped near the town square to ask (yes men do ask for directions). The man I asked said I don't know but follow me and I know who will. I followed him around a corner and through an old crusty doorway and all of a sudden we were in an old local restaurant/bar filled with locals. EVERYONE looked at me. I quickly got my directions and left.

The assignment was to shoot the interior of the plant and their processes. The plant manufactures foam products for building materials. It was really nice to get the tour and see all the foam cutting and molding. Then I was turned loose for 2 or 3 hours to do my thing. I will post a shot from inside the plant as my first comment so you have some idea about the product. The man in the shot makes the large foam blocks. He runs a machine that pumps in the foam beads and heats them to produce these large blocks. You can see him moving one even though it is about 10 or 15 times his size. The rest of the plant takes these blocks and cuts them to various specs for different products.
