One of Chicago's odder traditions - the ability to 'mark' parking spots with old furniture. I thought it only applied after you shoveled snow to clear a spot, but I haven't owned a car since 1989, so what do I know about by-laws?

yes, you'd think so, chelseagirl.
Unfortunately, by unwritten Chicago tradition, this means that your car is then fair target for various petty vandalisms (water poured over keyhole, tire punctures, etc.), so nobody risks the wrath of their neighborhood psychopaths.
