Strange Creatures

The little sea urchin on top is quite unusual. It was discovered by a research vessel near New Caledonia at a depth of 1000 ft.

Sea Urchins are fascinating as seen here. Growing up we would hunt for them in Florida.

wow! The thumbnail looked so alien and artificial, and yet much of what lies in the ocean is so different from land-bound forms. Good shot.

Yes! With a slightly inductive delay line in the squiggle...

Oh, and they managed to get their MEMS comb drive wrapped around the sphere...

Not sure what the nipples are for tho...

Maybe that's the "mother" part of the board.

The thumbnail gave me the impression it showed an exotic confection of marzipan and frosting, or perhaps an intricate piece of sculpture, like a Fabrege egg.

Do you know the taxonomy of this sea urchin?

truly astounding! On the Oregon state coastline along the Pacific we found simple ones... these are so exotic! I learned in Biology many years ago that these are called "tests" each one being a Test. boy was that fun to play with!

oh, to me those were not nipples -yet saw the resemblance-, but vestigial tentacles...

the urchin atop reminded me of the chinese paper lanterns... guess if I google enough I may find one painted similarly... =D
