   It was not far out from San Diego, as we were driving back up to LA. There were a few of them but of course as it was night and we were driving so this is the only one that made it into a photo.

    I used to live in San Diego, and drove past these many times.

    These signs are placed near a border patrol stop on the highway. They had a problem with illegal immigrants fleeing from vehicles before reaching the patrol officers, and trying to cross the highway on foot. These signs are to warn drivers to watch for people fleeing across many lanes of fast moving traffic.

    I think they're made by the California Department of Transit (CALTRANS) though I could be mistaken.

    People in other states don't believe that these signs exist in California but they do! They on the 5 freeway by San Diego if ever your in the area.

    What's even funnier is that this is such a well known sign in southern California that there's been a parody of it done with the silhoettes of the Simpsons fleeing across the road the same way.

    I've seen the parody on T-shirts.
