Eilean Donan Castle

The most photographed castle in all of Scotland (or so they say). When we got there it was raining and I was quite disappointed not to be able to join in the ranks of castle photographers. So we stayed in the car and waited until the castle opened.

While we were studying the castle's history inside it cleared up a bit and we saw the sun for the first time of our vacation and so I was able to take a few pictures. (Could just as well have bought postcards)

Added to Cream of the Crop as "most favorited"

Please compare this shot with one of a totally different mood (taken by 1Sock) which I also like.

Thanks so much for all the kind comments, I was mostly lucky that the sun came out at just the right moment, which it rarely enough did.

I think it has been used in a movie or two, but I'm not sure.

To the right of the castle - not seen in the image - there is a bridge over to the coast of the Loch. I believe this bridge at least is used in Highlander - the first of the movies. We see the Clan of the MacLeods ride out to war over that bridge. I am not sure if the castle is featured in more scenes of that movie or any other movies, but it sure is photogenic.

Nice shot of it. I have seen plenty on here - including my own take on the scene (http://www.flickr.com/photos/1sock/250011590). I especially like yours because of the reflection of the castle in Loch Alsh and how the castle walls have been illuminated by the sun.
