Valley of the Sun

Valley of the Sun

Panorama of a sunset over the Phoenix metropolitan area as seen from the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.

With a population of over 4 million spread throughout its nearly 23 cities and towns, Phoenix is the 6th largest city, and still one of the fastest growing, in the US. I made this city my home in 2006 and have seen it grow at an incredibly fast pace since then, in both the influx of new residents and the accelerated development - the area that I live in now is heavily commercialized, but was bare, dry desert for miles at all ends only several years ago. Despite the weight of the recession, especially in the heavy toll on the real-estate market, the population continues to grow, and the area to expand, as newcomers seek fresh opportunities and new beginnings. Hopefully when I look at this skyline in the next decade there will be as much change as those before me have seen in the last.

Shot with a Nikon D300S and a NIKKOR 50mm 1.4D lens.

Full-size version (1900x858) recommended.
