I was using shutter speed 1/30, I should have
tried 1/50 (with ISO compensation) as well,
But it all happened so quickly, and I was
"stunned" by what was going on. I
hope I will remember when covering for other
event next time.......
@belen, yes this is a yearly event in Chiang
Mai-Thailand. It starts in the morning with
ceremonies and cultural performances. After
mid-day they meditate and pray (I don't speak
Thai, but I believe the prayers were for
human kindness and world peace). At about
6:30 they released the lantern which
symbolize sending their prayers to heaven,
and in 2010 they released 12,000
lanterns...!!

how do you do this? I remember as a child I
used to Pin 4 corners of a newspaper together
and light the 4 corners and it would raise
into the air. It was awesome. But this is
so much more awesome!! Thanks Gina

Wow! so detail and the lanterns are so close. Good shot bro! 2.8 is 2.8. it's much better than mine f4. :)

My favorite part of this, besides the amazingly breathtaking scene, is the monk taking his own photo of it as well :)

@a.li[e]n , great observation. We only have max 10 seconds to cover this event, didn't notice the monk while taking the shots, it was a bonus !

@mulder: I think this event must have inspired the lantern story in Tangled. This is soo beautiful. I can imagine how amazing one would feel there.
