It's more than material poverty that threatens these families, it's a psychological poverty, a hopelessness that can lead to a cycle of continued poverty. But the Coptic Orphans volunteers bring more than the basic necessities for life, they bring care and knowledge and inspiration.

Coptic Orphans founder Nermien Riad, circa 1988, at the orphanage in Egypt where she volunteered. When she found out that many of the girls had mothers, she began working on a program to support the children to stay at home, with their mothers and siblings, and to get a proper education.
