OK, most people would think I'm out of my mind, photographing a paper
bag! Thank God for Flickr, where at least some understand nostalgia
for
a store closed for the past 25 years. I was reminiscing about Grand
Central with a contact, and knew I had this bag as my only tangible
memory of the store we shopped at a lot when I was a kid. Those first
dimes I earned on my paper route went to Grand Central for candy bars!
Back then it was side-by-side with Smith's Food King. Grocery stores
only sold food back in those days.

Hi arts, my mistake. I just didnt recall the GC dowtown. I do remember that Grand Central on 7th & 21st before it changed to a Fred Myer. Spent a lot of time in the toy section there. Also, the Dee's drive-in across the street before it moved down to 13th and 21st.

Ellie, just trying to remember waayyyyy back. Was the JB's you're thinking of on the corner of State and 4th south. For some reason I recall it was kitty-corner from Tracy Collin's bank.

You know, I suddenly remembered that the JB was on 7th East and 33rd South. (I'm pretty sure anyway). This was in the 80s. There might have been one down on 4th S. and State too, but I can't remember too well. I keep hoping to find a LOT more photos of downtown SLC from the 50s to the 70s.
