Awaiting Spring

Awaiting Spring

Just before the big storm that brought us winter, along this bucolic lane I strolled. It was late October. Now March makes me impatient for snow to melt, for mud to dry and for deciduous trees to wear their foliage again.

The Cheese Ranch Trail

The Cheese Ranch Trail

My hometown, Highlands Ranch, Colorado maintains one of the largest urban park systems in the U.S. It includes thousands of acres of dedicated open space and parks, in addition to a connected trail system of about 200 miles. My daily walks often take me into Cheese Ranch Park, where deer, foxes, coyotes, raptors, waterfowl and snakes abide in close proximity to people. Less frequently seen are mountain lions known to transit the area in summer.

Cedar Breaks Monument

Cedar Breaks Monument

Most people drive by this national monument on their way to Utah's better known National Parks. It is one of my favorite photographic venues.

Sawtooth Tractor

Sawtooth Tractor

An old Ford Tractor, abandoned and rusting in a meadow, adds interest to this sunrise capture in Lower Stanley, Idaho. In the background is the Sawtooth mountain range.
