santa's treat

santa's treat

... and he bought me my first DSLR, a Nikon D90. Now that we are somewhat moved into our new place and the dust has settled, I decided to take the camera out of its box and experiment around the home. (It's also called procrastination in not wanting to do my work for next week!)

A for Avo

A for Avo

Avo means grandma in portuguese. This picture was taken sometime in 2002/2003 when I first got into photography and had purchased my very own Nikon FE. I cannot remember what film I had used. Going through some old boxes I had stored at my parents, I found this picture (which I had been looking for the negative in over a year) and scanned it for the Film26 project. The print is way nicer than the scanned version.

She passed away in October which has made me less than enthusiastic about photography and the little things that made me happy on a daily basis. I needed a break from flickr as I was only able deal with the necessities of my life (work, an online course, and moving into a bigger home). Coming back to the flickr world and photography is by no means a new years resolution, but a way of coming back to being me.

take a rest - life can be a juggling act

take a rest - life can be a juggling act

I know I have been missing in action around here... the demands of work, on top of another online course, and trying to teach a new subject this year, has presented many challenges. I like challenges, but I feel like I need a rest (too early in the year to feel this way I think). Waiting for the day I can catch up around here :(

This was shot back in May when my niece was only 3 months old. She was learning to roll over and since she didn't know what to do with her bottom arm, she decided to fall asleep on her own. Two weeks later, she learned how to remove the bottom arm into a full turn over. Now she is 7 months old and when she is put to bed, she pulls herself up on her crib and resorts to standing and bouncing around.
