President Obama due for his visit to Ottawa (the capital in Canada near Toronto / Montreal) tomorrow February 19th 2009, signed into law yesterday an economic stimulus package he calls the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
The President also said on a radio address, that his goal is to put together a plan that "not only creates jobs in the short-term but spurs economic growth and competitiveness in the long-term." and that there are risks.
The package will focus on providing assistance to low- and middle-income Americans, strengthening the nation's infrastructure, and investing in dire 'states' that are struggling with falling revenues, with the goal of creating or preserving at least 3 million jobs over the next two years.

Haven't seen a stack like that since I worked in the cash vault at the bank!
I have always been concerned about laws that get passed for a specific purpose, but more than half of it has nothing to do with the stated purpose. It's worse with a bill this huge.
When Mr. Obama signed the bill, he said, "It's done." My daughter asked me what was done, and I told her I'm glad she saw that because she could tell her grandchildren that she saw what they are paying for.
I hope it works. Whether it does or doesn't, her grandchildren will still have to pay for it.

The most difficult thing to change is the wildly subjective "sense of confidence" that gets business flowing again... and the sense of responsibility that seemed to be lacking which led to the false prosperity fueled by credit.

So far only inflation and lack of jobs. Not surprising for a government solution. I just checked the exchange rate and the US dollar has lost 16% to the Canadian dollar. And there are about 4.1M jobless--an all time high! Great job!
