Wanted to get out in the backcountry, and heard the campground was opening Friday, so I thought I'd head to Tuolumne the first night. Perhaps the campground opened too soon - a lot of the campsites are mud. How'd you like to start your vacation with your rent-a-bago buried to the axel - in your campsite - with a 2 hour wait for towing?
By 2PM the line of trailers trying to enter blocked blocked the road in either direction. By 3PM NPS declared victory and retreated, hanging the "Campsite Full" sign, with maybe 80% of the spaces still vacant. Gotta love America at play...
Me, I spent a soggy, buggy night in my tent, before moving on, chasing ghosts in the southwest corner of the park (more on this in a later post).
This is Budd Creek at full flow, with the Tuolumne River rampaging behind, Fairview Dome on the left.
Cheers,
Steve
