I was walking back along the beach after an unsuccessful attempt at getting a few shots of the old pier when I spotted the waves being forced up this channel alongside the groyne. All the compositional elements just seemed to fall in place!

After a bit of experimenting I'm really starting to enjoy using my B&W 10 stop filter, particularly when taking pictures of water. This is the old pier at Swanage; I like the idea that this pier has been standing there for years and years, under constant attack from the sea and the elements.

One of the many groynes containing the replenished sand on the beach at Swanage.

The old pier at Swanage, long since collapsed. The 10 stop filter was a must as the sun was getting strong by this time. This was a 55 sec exposure at f16.

A wider view of the same branch, I think this image has a slightly more dreamy feel to it although I prefer the composition in 'Castaway' (www.flickr.com/photos/graemekelly/6785147324/in/photostream)
