Good choice. I liked the b&w version, but this is so striking.

Thanks leslie. I always have such a hard time deciding. I showed it to a friend, who recommended the color version.
The blue sky is such a great color against the clouds, I had to go with this one.

Beth- is this by the mission? I don't remember this statue; but it's been about 4 years since I've been to SJB.
musicmuse_ca (80 months ago | reply)
Hi Kevin...
Yeah it is right out in front of the Mission, near where the bells are and the cemetery.

I should make a trip. I used to camp frequently above SJB on Fremont Peak (best during no moon nights when they operate the telescope). Sunday morning breakfast would be cinnamon buns from San Juan Bakery.
Mmmmmmmmm!

@Aileene: Thanks!

@Kevin: Sounds like a great trip. I hope you take the time to do it.
I will have to check out that bakery next time I am over that way.

An apt quote to accompany a great capture.
Trivia: At concerts, I've seen Jimi point to Mitch Mitchell and also to Noel Redding when he would get to that line and say "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy." Every time he did it he and the other fellas in the band would crack up. In fact, I don't recall him ever saying the "real" lyrics at that part of the song. Do you remember that? ('Cause, somehow I know, you were there too!)

@bunaen: I actually saw Jimi Hendrix on his first tour, when he opened for Joni Mitchell at Town Hall in May of 1968. So yeah I know. Thanks!

Hey everyone, Musicmuse_ca, this is my professor's work! How exciting...Here is a Copy & Paste Excerpt of his mini biography. His Name is Thomas Marsh at the Academy of Art University, (He is a Part time Professor of Fine Art figure Drawing and Full time Sculptor):
Thomas Marsh is a classical figurative sculptor who has created many public monuments in California, and elsewhere in the United States. Perhaps his best known works are the statue in the Santa Cruz surfing monument, the statue of John the Baptist at the Mission in San Juan Bautista, CA, and the Statue of Democracy in San Francisco's Chinatown. He is the designer and sculptor of the recently dedicated Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Marsh has taught undergraduates and graduate students at the Academy since 1981. His expertise ranges from drawing and anatomy to figure sculpture and aesthetics.
