This Rough Green Snake was rescued from some snake-o-phobes at my
workplace, where it was crossing a sidewalk. I had planned a
"set-up" shot, placing the snake on an isolated shrub, but
it raced down the stem and off across the surrounding lawn, heading
for a large tree. Oh well! I was able to get a few shots as it paused
in the grass and held its head up to investigate me. This was actually
the first shot I took of about 50, and it was the best. I never could
get a great "tongue shot", which is what I was trying for.
The composition here was rather accidental. Only after reviewing the
series did I see this one had an interesting look.
FYI: this is a non-venomous snake, and usually refuses to even take a
nip when handled. It will give one a squirt of musk from its cloaca if
picked up.
