White Spotted Jellyfish

White Spotted Jellyfish

Native to Australia, this jelly's sting is relatively harmless to humans, however they currently pose a threat to marine ecosystems. They feed on microscopic plankton, filtering as much as 13,200 gallons of sea water everyday and a swarm of jellies can consume large amounts of plankton, thus leaving little left for corals and sea anemones. They are an invasive species in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, causing a serious threat to native marine species that rely on plankton for their food.
