so this makes your lens count what now? why'd you decide to go with a fixed focal length lens? i see that this one is very inexpensive. awesome.

This would be my second lens. Although, I have the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L arriving on Wednesday. The 50mm is commonly known as the "thrifty fifty". The casing of it is very cheaply made, but the optics are superb. Fixed focal length lenses are generally sharper than zooms, and 50mm is a good length for portraits and just in general. Also, with the fixed focal length allows for the f/1.8 aperture which is awesome.

Wowee, Eric. Talk about limited DOF! f1.8 is very sensitive to light!

I know! I love that. I really prefer natural lighting to using a flash. I also really like shots where just the key part of the subject is in focus. We'll see what I come up with when using this lens!

I am sure you will enjoy this lens very much. I have always preferred primes over zooms. My favorite focal lengths are 85mm and 50mm. I look forward to see your upcoming photos with this nice addition to you kit.

Stupid question, but I've got a 40D and only just got it, will this lens go with? I apologise for the stupidity of the question.
