When controlling the SB-600 remotely from my D70 using Nikon's CLS, there is a smaller flash together with the shutter to trigger the remote flash. It's not always you want this flash to show up in photos.

As it turns out you can put a piece of underexposed film, or floppy disk, in front of the on-camera flash. Just remember to actually set the camera to commander mode, otherwise it burns out the piece of floppy as the camera tries to light up the scene through the very effective filter (as shown here).
