This was in November 2003. The church had fallen into disuse and was being floated down the lake to another harbour. From there it was taken to a kind of outdoor folk museum

Hi Chelsea:
I was just searching for hits on this church and found your website.

I was the minister of that church (I just moved to another province) and it was wild seeing it coming down the road and floating away on the barge. There are some great pictures at the Highland Village website! Thanks for including it with your pictures, because watching that church floating away was one of the most amazing moments of my life. All the best.

AAaron1, sorry to say the church had 'fallen into disuse' -- clearly it had not if you were the minister there! Perhaps, 'lesser use' is a better term.

I sent you a message as well.

about ten years ago i walked cabot trail around the tip of cape breton for about three days -- i just parked my car at the police station (in a town whose name escapes me) and started walking, then hitched back. it was incredible; has to be one of the most amazing views in north america. i'm so happy to find work from there -- and newfoundland is somewhere i'm dying to go as well. thanks, chelseagirl!

I've swam in that water :) It is the Bras d'or Lakes. I am so surprised to see a pic of this event on here- very very cool. I'll have to go and see it in its new location when I get back to CapeBreton next month.
