I love the softness of this. Charcoal suits your style very well! How are your art classes going?

thank you kim. i'm revisiting charcoal and really enjoying it. thanks for asking about the class. i had my first proper class last friday. i have had my criminal check which now lets me work with kids unsupervised so i took my "fine art" group. I loved it. it is quite a small group of about 13 children all of whom want to do art so it is very manageable. my first aim was to get them to relax so i got them doing drawing games and i played a cd of satie in the background to help the mood! anyway they seemed to have fun and i got a lovely text from a mum who thanked me for inspiring her son!! a long way to go but so far so good! and yes the bit they all loved was when i showed them the jkpp portraits of me. they loved seeing the diversity of styles and became very excited! i also had a lucky dip hat and asked them to pull out the name of an artist. each student simply had to either bring in a figurative work by the artist or a fact (dates, country of birth, art movement ) and next week they will vote if they think the artist is super cool or not and the photo will be put on a "Top Gear" cool chart! firmly tongue in cheek but hopefully will get them to discuss the artists and think about their own tastes, as well as demonstrate diversity!

oh what a lovely thing to say. thank you judith.:0)

you are still a great cheerleader for us all arty!

thank you jimmer!! i was drawn to the wonderful light in the photo. i'm glad it came across. :0)

      Fine study, Luli!

What tasty music to play for your students to get them in a creative mood!

You sound as if you've already reaped fine personal rewards from your new experiences.

and thank you too lovely mariah!

i'm sure they will produce some lovely work and i would love to show it off but i'm a little nervous as yet of taking photos and putting them on line. schools are hyper sensitive about that sort of thing and i don't want to get sacked!! i'll sound the art teacher out when i get more settled. :0)

hello clyde. good to see you again. thanks for your support. i love satie!! i think the older ones wanted something grungier! :0))

Luli, what a lovely and soulful sketch you have made from this photograph! I agree with all above, such fine work. I recognize my mother in your drawing as well - I am aware that I do look more and more like her now that I am aging. She is not around anymore so that was very special to see her too!! Thank you so very much for this lovely drawing of me
