- all our kids collect these old metal tool boxes . . . so handy! this one is full of strings and things to make friendship bracelets.
- english oilcloth from john lewis + a heavy duty staple gun = fab wall treatment for cheap . . . oilcloth is weighty, so you don't need to line it to use it as wallcovering . . . and it's nice and reflective and comes in loads of pretty patterns and colors.
- smurfilicious
- pay attention when old stores and warehouses close in your neighborhood . . . . and hound the owners till they sell you their old cabinets . . .
- all vintage linens (so soft!) and a spectacular handsewn vintage american quilt. lucky us!

thanks, all! what do you all think of the cabinet? caroline and i have an ongoing debate -- to paint (silver, maybe?) or not to paint??? for now, it seems not to paint is winning. it's a bit rusty, though! opinions very much appreciated! thanks! la x

I am absolutely loving this whole set of photos!!! Great job on the room....I could live there! As far as the cabinet is concerned...DON'T PAINT IT!!!!! Just go to the hardware store and ask for some " Navel Jelly" ....no, it's not for your belly button! It is a shipyard commodity used to polish away rust. Trust me....use it! I guarantee you will love the finish it gives the piece....and you can save that lovely vintage patina! Great job!!! I can't wait to see what you come up with next! :)

trisha - thanks v. v. much for those most excellent words of wisdom. when teddy and i go out to the farmers' market (it's back! hooray!) this afternoon, we will stop at blackhawk hardware and get some navel jelly. i'm very excited! will take a snap of it after i fix it up:) thx again! lynn-anne
