I just thought that I'd share the information I learned today! This is regarding contracts that MasterCard and Visa have with merchants who accept their cards; this is not necessarily indicative of legal obligations of merchants or the credit card companies.

Did you know? (Rules For Merchants Who Accept MasterCard and Visa):

      - In order to make a credit card purchase, the merchant/retailer may NOT require a minimum or maximum purchase amount. (For example, a store can't post a sign saying, "$10.00 or more required for purchases made on credit cards.")
      - A merchant/retailer cannot add a charge for using your credit card. (This does not apply in the case of gas stations using third-party debit card processing networks.)
      - If your card is signed on the back, a merchant/retailer may NOT require you to show additional identification.
      - A merchant/retailer displaying a MasterCard or Visa logo in their window cannot then refuse to accept your MasterCard or Visa credit card.

To report violations of these rules to MasterCard International, go to: www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/contactus/merchantviola...

You can report violations to Visa International by writing to:
      Visa International
      P.O. Box 8999
      San Francisco, CA 94128

Great sign. I have yet to see one like this at a restaurant. I've used your picture with a link and attribution on my blog about CC debt www.thepassivedad.com

      Thanks,
