On Friday the 13th, 2006 I decided to add one of my responses to comments down below and then send this picture to the "Pictures with Stories Group (Pool)"
This is a story about some cats at the Heartland Humane Society in Corvallis, Oregon, USA. It is about how I took this particular picture, and in particular about the striking black cat with the tight red collar. The black cat has spied that I have a camera strap on a stick that they could all try to get. He is in sort of a kangaroo position, sitting up very upright, with paws down by his sides, but ready to bat at the toy. I think he is being a combination of competitive (by rising taller and being older) and protectiveness (also for the same reasons). The younger kittens are kind of taking his lead.
As to the collar, it is tape, somehow sticking to itself on the ends, but not sticking to the hair all around the cat's neck. Lately, it does seem the collars are a bit tight, especially the red ones, but they don't want them to slip off either, as that is their ID. I don't work there, nor am I an official volunteer there; so I don't think it my place to tell them how tight their collars should be. I am sort of an unofficial volunteer there, doing lots of photographs and donating blankets and towels when I can. Kind of like an unpaid and unofficial ambassador, but I have no say in how they run it.
