Ca. 1961: Sycamore plane guard lands behind Sea Venom 801 on MELBOURNE [II] - Kim Dunstan.
2816. Colour flight deck scenes in HMAS MELBOURNE's Sea Venom era are not very common. In Kim Dunstan's pic here, taken up to original size, one can see the observer/navigator and pilot in the dual cockpit of the Sea Venom, which has apparently just landed, and there is a man underneath the folding wing, left, chocking the wheel.
The plane's number, 801, is on the wheel cavity flap. You can read the identifications of the flight deck crews vests, and notice the fireman on standby to the far left.
Finally, as Kim correctly tells us, if the photo is viewed full size, three other warships are just visible on the horizon, centre-picture.
