Oldschool Fashion

Oldschool Fashion

I took this shot of my friend Jakob with my Canon EF-M film camera, using a Kodak Ektar 100 film. This was taken during the fashion shoot that I did in January with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II but of course it took me some time to fill the film and get it developed. Now I am quite happy with the results of that roll.
Analogue photography doesn't have to dodge behind digital photography. I think nowadays you can still get some very cool shots that are of high quality and rich in detail.
I don't like how people see film photography in the way that these weird iPhone Filter-apps present the whole thing. That's too overdrawn and stereotyped for me. When I use a film camera, I always see it as a challenge of making a technically perfect shot that could be compared to a digital photograph, without all these overstated alienations.

What do you think about this?

Crib Figurines

Crib Figurines

This is one of the photos I took on the Christmas market at Schloss Schönbrunn in Vienna back in December. It was way more than a regular Christmas market. The exhibitors were very talented and good with their hands. At the stall where I took this picture the guy sold these beautiful crib figurines. I guess most of them were made of wood. The whole selling space was filled with these figurines and I framed this shot in a way you can only see the massive crowd of people and animals and things. To me it looks like a whole nation was preparing for christmas.
This photo was also made with my brilliant Canon EF-M, the EF 50mm 1.8II and a Kodak Ektar 100 film.

Schloss Schönbrunn

Schloss Schönbrunn

A couple of days before christmas I've spent a nice evening at the Christmas market on the courtyard of Schloss Schönbrunn. I took only my film camera with me and I really enjoyed shooting the whole holidays with it. Instead of taking hundreds of random christmas photos I loved the feeling of having three rolls of film for the two weeks. In the end, I've only used one roll and the second one is still in the camera, so that makes about 50 photos for christmas 2011.
I recommend you to try that once you have the time. I love the fact that these 50 photos are quite special. That keeps this family event in good memory and you really think about what you are going to take a picture of.
By the way, this was of course shot on my brilliant and lightweight Canon EF-M with the Canon EF 50mm 1.8II. I am currently really rocking this combo, to be honest. The Film was a Kodak Ektar 100. I was really surprised how well the film performed in this low light situation.
Oh and to me it seems like this picture was tilting a bit to the right. In fact, it isn't. I've put ledger lines along the roof in photoshop and it's exactly straight. It's weird...

Sparkassenstraße

Sparkassenstraße

After taking a few brilliant shots at the 1972 Olympic Regatta Course in Oberschleißheim, we rushed to the city centre of Munich in order to capture the marvelous atmosphere of the sunlight fading away. It started to get quite dark at the time when this photo was taken, but I was very surprised how well the Canon EOS 5D Mark II performed together with the simple 50mm 1.8II lens. All in all I love the bokeh and the cue state on this.
