red and yellow.
This is another shot of my early morning Crater Lake adventure...
If I can learn something in my travels and then pass it on to you....I feel like my adventure was worth it.
Some helpful things I may have taught you so far;
1) Mountain Lions suck
2) Don't walk on the yellow flowers
you may fall into a sulphur pit.
3) Crater Lake in winter is very cold.
Now add this tale to your list.
Aaron Brothers can cram it in their face.
Saturday I set about framing and matting a picture I sold. This
should have been a painless process, taking all of 1 hours time and
effort.
This time...not so much.
I like to think ahead, so Friday I dropped off my file at the overpriced photo store to be printed...to be ready Saturday, which it was. I purchased a nice board for the photo there as well...
If you're playing along at home.
Step one: print photo -Check
Step two: Get matting -Check
Step Three: Frame
I went to Aaron Brothers, because they have a wide variety of frames...and the prices are fairly low as well....and when one is trying to maximize profits...this is important...basic economics.
I buy a frame, it's nice.
I take it home.
Attach photo to pre-cut matting.
Put matted photo in frame.
Seal frame.
Look at frame.
See scratch in glass.
Curse
Remove photo.
I return to Aaron Brothers mearly 20 minutes after I was JUST there. I explain I need a new frame. The one I have is broken.
They let me exchange it. I upgrade the frame to one I like better. I'm out $10 more dollars.
No big deal...it looks better.
I get home.
I begin to reframe.
The frames have these pegs you bend up in order to remove the backing, fake matting, and photo of some loser wedding you weren't at. The pegs in my frame aren't right.
They're bent slightly enough that I can't get the glass out.
I'm not happy. I try to remove the peg that is causing me to not be able to remove the glass.
I ever so slightly bump the glass.
It breaks in 5 pieces.
It's very easy to remove now.
I curse some more.
I'm livid.
I return to Aaron Brothers. It's only 15 minutes later than the last time I was there, which was the 2nd time in 40 minutes. It's like they don't remember me.
[Frame Queen] HI, can I help you?
[Me] Yes, I need some glass for a frame.
[Frame Queen] What size frame.
[me] The 16x 20 size you JUST sold me.
[Frame Queen] Really...ok what type of glass did you want?
[Me] (thinking, but not saying) The kind you can SEE through dummy
[Me] (actually, speaking) Uhm...what kind do you have.
[Frame Queen] We have museum ultra super glare resistent mega glass
[Me] How much is it.
[Frame Queen] $41
[Me] HA! that's more than the frame...no. What else you got?
[Frame Queen] There's the slightly less gratifying, kind of, sort of,
glare resistant, 99% UV protected, tasty glass (I'm kidding with what
she actually says...because I only hear prices when I'm angry...)
[Me] How much is THAT?
[Frame Queen] $27
[Me] NO. What else?
[Frame Queen] Well...then we drop down to our mediocre glarified glare
glass for losers who don't want the good crap.
[Me] How much is it?
[Frame Queen] $13
[Me] Sold. Give it to me...do I get a discount because your frame
pegs suck, and I've been here 3 times in a half hour?
[Frame Queen] You have been? I'm sorry....That's too bad, I'm sorry.
I'll be back with your glass.
I'm not the type to punch someone in the throat ...but right then I almost was.
I was there 3 TIMES in 40 minutes!!! She had no memory of it. I got NO discount, and ended up spending $25 more on a frame when all was said and done.
Let that be a lesson to you...when you buy a frame from Aaron Brothers, let them put the picture in at the store, then it's their fault....and maybe they might remember who you are.

The boring white sky is complimented nicely by the busy awkwardly composed foreground.

^ ^ What Mike said, only the opposite. :-) The water is beautiful, as are the trees. Thanks, as always, for sharing the story.

I've had my fair share of returns to Aaron Bros. I've been lucky though and haven't broke any glass. I do my best now to visually inspect before I buy but I like you idea of bringing the matted print to put in there.

We don't have Aaron Bros. , but we do have Michael's. It sounds about the same. I love the stand of aspens in this misty/foggy shot. The yellow really shines through.

Well we don't have Aaron Brothers here, so I'll 100% take your advice. Nice photo BTW, looks like expensive glass on the water.

Another beautiful image from your crater lake trip. Did you have to get in the water for this one too?
I bet those trees really light up on a sunny day.

LOL!!!!! I suppose your day coulda been worse ! You could've cut yourself on the broken glass, then you would have to go to casualty, and on the way, had an auto accident, hit a pedestrian and got sued for being in a rage over ---- a photograph ! ?
Just teasin'!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny story, Brian. I know what you mean about Aaron Bros. That's why I get my glass from Lowes.
This is a very nice shot. I would just crop it slightly off the top.
