On the Road To Paradise

On the Road To Paradise

On the way into Mt. Rainier we passed through the small town of Elbe for a bite to eat. Nearby the restaurant sat this small edifice, The Elbe Lutheran Church. This church was listed on Ripley's Believe it or Not as the world's smallest functional church. This church is often described as being "on the road to paradise" since it is on the highway that travelers use to access Paradise, a developed area in Mt. Rainier National Park.

Needle in a Haystack

Needle in a Haystack

If you have been following this blog for a while, you may have noticed that I like to shoot wide. My go to lens is almost always the 14-24mm giving me a very open view of everything, much like I see the world. This shot was taken with my 18-300mm zoomed in a lot. I am still experimenting this lens and learning how to create interesting angles from far away. This shot was taken from Queen Anne Hill in Seattle, a great place to watch the sun set behind the city.

Devil's Lake

Devil's Lake

Still having momentum from the recent Seattle trip, I made way up to Devil's Lake Wisconsin with my friend Bryan yesterday. It's about a 3 and a half hour trip from Chicago and it didn't dissapoint. This shot was the very first one that I took, with the sun still high enough to peak through the trees.

Seattle at Large

Seattle at Large

Nothing beats stitching together a huge pano like this. Unfortunately, due to a width limitation on the blog, you only get about 900px across, which means for a pano, you only see a couple hundred pixels in height. For this shot it might be worth clicking the image that takes you to the flickr page. From there you can click Actions->View All Sizes, then click Original. For all the pano lovers out there, here is a collection of all of mine:

Tumbling Through Mt. Rainier

Tumbling Through Mt. Rainier

As I mentioned in the previous post, I spent this past weekend in Seattle. Any time I travel to a new place I will search flickr for the most interesting photos from that location. For Seattle, one of the first places that usually comes up is Mt. Rainier National Park which is where the below photo was taken.

During our day trip to Mt. Rainier I had a minor accident in which I tumbled from atop a steep slope luckily avoiding big rocks on my way down. I lost my shoes, and had to hike up a log back to the top barefoot. I managed to escape this ordeal with just a few cuts and bruises, and the trusty Nikon prevailed with barely any noticeable damage. There is a lesson to be taken from this incident somewhere and I'll be sure to post that when I figure it out. This shot below was very close to where I had my tumble.
