The following insects were found wandering our cone flowers this summer. From the top down:
A Hoverfly - Hoverflies look a lot like small bees. They are colored like a bee, but are smaller. They are completely harmless to humans, are great pollenators, and terrorize other insects in your garden like aphids or thrips. You can find more information by visiting Mygarden or here.
Soldier Beetle (Pennsylvania Leatherwing) - This was hard to identify. At first I thought it was a firefly, and then a root worm, but eventually my wife (and google) prevailed. This Soldier Beetle is a harmless garden insect that eats caterpillars, grasshopper eggs and other stuff. More information can be found here

You gotta love Iowa for its wildflowers. If it wasn't so dang hot, I'd be out every night shooting. Thanks for the Explore everyone!
