What Kind Of Photographer Are You? - Rockies N7162e

What Kind Of Photographer Are You? - Rockies N7162e

What kind of photographer are you?

There are at least two categories of photographers in the digital age.

The Camera Type

These photographers take the camera as main tool for image creation. The image was taken by the camera and it is 90% done. May be they will spend 10% of the efforts in making some enhancements in post-production. Composition and visual design is more important to them and these are done in-camera.

The Computer Type

The camera takes a minor role in image creation process. The image in camera is just 10% done. The creation process is just begun when the computer and Photoshop (or other software) is turned on. Their pictures are called digital art. The final result of the images is so much different from the raw images taken by the camera. Computer instead of camera is their main tool.

What category do you belong to?

Please don’t give me the answer saying you are 50/50 with emphasis both on camera and computer. There has to be either one taking the more weight at anytime.

This is the shot of a fellow photographer in my tour group taken in my 2011 Canadian Rockies vacation.

Happy Thursday!

I want to share the quote of famous photographer André Kertész today.

“The camera is my tool. Through it I give a reason to everything around me.” - André Kertész

Can You See Me? - Self Portrait Yaohan Centre X0215e

Can You See Me? - Self Portrait Yaohan Centre X0215e

This will be most uninteresting part of my photography i.e. self portrait.

I would like to give my support and entry to the self portrait contest organized by 85mm Street Contest Flickr Group.

The problem is that I always prefer not to show my face (the most uninteresting subject in the world) in the shot. You can understand I have a very low self image!

So I have to choose a reflective surface in order to show myself in it but not to reveal my face as much as possible.

I passed by the eyeglass store in Yaohan Shopping Mall and I spotted that they have a mirror in front of the store. Here is the result.

Illusion is a great theme in photography and I wish to make one similar to that.

Happy Wednesday!

I also want to share a quote I read this morning on the magazine.

“My life is shaped by the urgent need to wander and observe, and my camera is my passport.” – Steve McCurry

We Need A Sun Dance - Young Taiko Drummer Maritime Festival 7916e

We Need A Sun Dance - Young Taiko Drummer Maritime Festival 7916e

We have rain again in the start of this week.

I think we need some sun dance to get the sun coming out. So I retrieve some shots taken in last summer and hope it will serve the same purpose?

This was taken at the Maritime Festival in Britannia Shipyard last August. The young Taiko drummer is like doing the sun dance for us. :o)

Happy Tuesday!

Infrared with Fuji X10 - Minoru Park Infrared X0233e

Infrared with Fuji X10 - Minoru Park Infrared X0233e

I bought the lens hood adapter on internet for my Fuji X10 and this makes my Fuji X10 able to take 52mm filter from now on.

This is great because my only R72 infrared filter is in 52mm filter size. In the past I can only shoot infrared with my fixed lenses including 28mm, 35mm and 50mm and my Fuji S3 Pro. Now I am able to shoot with a zoom range from 28mm to 112 mm which is more flexible in framing.

We had heavy rain on Saturday and there was a little cloudy break in Sunday afternoon. I quickly did the test shot with the filter adapter in Minoru Park. There is not very much sunlight or infrared yesterday but I see a lot more IR shots with my X10 in future.

Happy Monday and have a great week coming!

PS. I find one thing good in shooting infrared with a compact such as Fuji X10. Because the sensor is smaller, there is more depth in view and this prevents some issues with fcousing in infrared light. Also the smaller sensor demands less light and I am able to shoot with lower ISO such as ISO 100 here. When I shoot with my Fuji S3 Pro, I usually have to go for ISO 400 and 20 seconds with moderate aperture.

I have ISO 100, F5.0 and 15 seconds here with my Fuji X10.

My Infrared Picture As Illustration For March - Mountain View Cemetery Calendar X0212e

My Infrared Picture As Illustration For March - Mountain View Cemetery Calendar X0212e

I am so cheap and miserly in printing my own pictures.

I rarely make large prints or even small prints of my own pictures for many reasons. They are not good enough in technical sense. I don't hang pictures on the wall at home and they will just sit idle in storage. The last but not least, I would rather spend the money on upgrade of my gear or lenses as my budget on these are already tight.

It would be nice if somebody else print it on my behalf for free though.

Last year I was invited by Mountain View Cemetery in participation of their 2012 calendar project and I was glad to do so.

My infrared picture taken at the cemetery was illustration for month of March.

It will go to storage after 2012 and I think it is good idea to save it in a pictrue too. :o)

Happy Sunday!
