NO, this is not a microscopic look at somebody's lab experiment. It's Romanesco broccoli, also known as Roman cauliflower. According to Wikipedia, it has been cultivated in Italy since the 16th Century, which makes me wonder why it took 500 years to make its way to my neighborhood supermarket. Hmmmm... Maybe it's because IT LOOKS LIKE FLESH-EATING BACTERIA! Shot with my iPhone 5.
