Sugar Bird - I can sing too!!!!! / Explored
Bananaquit / Coereba flaveola
This was the most common bird around our resort in Puerto Plata.. I saw more of these birds than the sparrows, thrushes and other common birds combined..
Also known locally as the sugar bird, these birds although used to the human population, are very agile and swift. Their main food is nectar from flowers and fruits. However, at the resort, they liked to take a sip or two (or more) from the drinks that people enjoyed around the pool area... These birds are about 4" in size, and have one of the most beautiful calls I've heard.
I could've taken a more casual snapshot since they were found in abundance, however, I wanted a more natural feel around the bird. So, I looked for these birds perched on trees and plants.. It took some time, but I got lucky on our second afternoon.. saw this beautiful bird perched on a palm frond singing in its beautiful voice. Got close as discretely as possible w/o spooking it off and took a few shots. The two (one more in my first comment) are the ones that came out best...
Yes, I had to crop the frame during post processing.. Even though I was able to get close for this images, due to their small size, they still didn't fill up the frame as much as I wanted to. Plus, I wanted to make sure they were captured properly.
I assure you this is the last bird shot.. won't bore you all more with these bird shots..!!!
As always, your constructive criticism is more than welcome and appreciated.
Have a great week ahead.
