Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi: Newton

Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi (1924–2005): Newton. A sculptural transcription of William Blake's depiction of Isaac Newton (1795), sculpted in 1995 (apparently as a bicentennial celebration), erected in 1998 at the piazza of British Library. - In despite of his name, Paolozzi was a very influential Scottish sculptor and artist of the 20th century.

I love Paolozzi's work. There is quite a lot of it in and around Edinburgh. I have always admired it.

Jo Peattie Oh yes. I visited his then recently opened museum in Edinburgh, back in July 2000. He is great.

The exactly side-on angle is so perfect for this sculpture. And the extraordinary detail that is visible here is just great. Actually, you show so much more than it's possible to see in reality, looking up at it, darkened against the bright sky. As they say, 'your sculpture is a masterpiece'!
