The colonial city of Valparaíso is an excellent example of late19th-century urban and architectural development in Latin America. In its natural amphitheatre-like setting, the city is characterized by a vernacular urban fabric adapted to the hillsides. It contrasts with the geometrical layout utilized in the plain lower city. The city has preserved its interesting early industrial infrastructures, such as the numerous ‘elevators’ on the steep hillsides. UNESCO WHS description. Explore 264

at first I found your photo from valparaiso, then the opera-house in buenos aires, the dark floor in italy, read about the places where you've been during your life-line: but most of all I enjoyed your comment, that it is possible to make: political art...

because you have lived in so many different cities, I am sure you would be a good moderator in our group CULTURAL BOXES, helping to find out more exactly, what we are searching for there...

it's paradoxical, that a small house is metamorphosed into a cable car :-)
maybe they should try to give wheels to the house on the right side too?

It is not a small house but a funicular car on its tracks going down the hill.
Valparaiso is not a "Spanish colonial city" even though was founded in colonial times its oldest buildings are from the 19th century when it became an important stopover for ships crossing between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, via the Strait of Magellan and Cape Horn, and gained particular importance supporting and supplying the California Gold Rush (1848-1858). Valparaíso was declared a world heritage site based on its industrial heritage, improvised urban design, and unique architecture. Beautiful place!
