Rappelling into a 300 foot sink hole
The incredible vertical distance to the bottom was breathtaking.
The walls of this chimney-like vertical channel were covered with
thick fern vegetation, all the way down as far as one could see. There
was a strange dead acoustic, as if sound got swallowed up in the hole.

Superb moment to press the shutter! Sound does get swallowed up inside chasms - you experience this doing crevasse rescue, voices don't carry to the surface. Strange phenomenon!
