The rain was strange - sometimes falling heaviliy in patches no wider than 200m. Sometimes they moved slowly up the beach and you could run round them!!!

You may not have noticed that your beautiful picture of a rainbow is different from a normal rainbow in that on the inside of the bow there are additional faint bright bands. What you have is an example of a supernumerary rainbow which occurs when the raindrops are very close to the same size. They are not commonly recognized, and occasionally show up in pictures like this. I wasn't aware of them until one showed up in one of my pictures and I did a little checking and found out what it was.
