11/52 River Walk

11/52 River Walk

Week 11, 2011

Out wandering enjoying the first real warm day of the year and drinking my shamrock shake as is my tradition on the first day it hits 60 degrees each spring :) Unfortunately the river wasn't shockingly green anymore from being dyed over the weekend so I decided to go with B&W.

Catching up on my postings. This is a little mint plant from my indoor herb garden. It has been fun to have fresh herbs all winter through this aerogarden!

Week 9, 2011

I'm a bit behind on posting but I have been keeping up with my shots. I tried a whole bunch of things this week with bubbles and fire and ended up disliking all of them. So poor Kevin is the subject yet again.

Week 8, 2011

This past weekend I had the pleasure and the honor of learning to make Chicken and Noodles – a family secret recipe for which my husband’s grandmother is absolutely famous. The dish is a labor of love especially since any time she makes it at least 20 people show up for dinner so there needs to be plenty to go around. She makes all the noodles by hand, kneading, rolling, cutting the dough into small 3 inch sections, and then finally feeding each small section through the gismo shown here for the final cut. The noodles get added to a gravy-like sauce with chicken and veggies and the whole thing goes over mashed potatoes…yep carb heaven! It is comfort food at its finest and Mima makes it best.

Of course, as it generally goes with delicious food made by grandmothers, there is no written recipe for this dish. Therefore the only way to learn is by helping to make it and understanding how things should look, feel, and taste during the process. I had a great time learning the tricks of the trade and spending the day with Mima chatting and listening to stories from her youth. Now the test will be whether or not I can pull this dish off without supervision! Thankfully Kevin says he is more than willing to taste test as many times as necessary :)

7/52 Fighter

Week 7, 2011

I originally took this shot last week as a tribute to fighting through the last of winter, and my classes. Though life is hectic I feel like I'm fighting (in a strong way) rather than struggling through it.

Between shooting and posting my mother has ended up in the hospital with extreme back pain that the doctors have thus far been unable to diagnose even after two days. She is an incredibly tough woman who never complains about pain so for her to be laid up for days we know it is bad.

So now this photo is for her...fight on Mom we are all here for you and praying for the doctors to find the answer and get you better soon!
