U.S. Marine Corps Mud Run participants make their way through a challenging course riddled with obsticals and mud, Oct. 15, 2011, Columbia, S.C. Participants competed in four person teams in different categories: male, female, co-ed, homeland heroes, military, corporate and JROTC. More than 7,000 people participated and due to the increasing interest, the once annual event is now held twice a year to accommodate everyone who wants to compete. Long was assigned to the 455th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron tactical security element at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. During a mission, Long’s convoy struck an Improvised Explosive Device.
