Opportunity Knocked
The Visitor Centre at Leyhill Prison opened in 2003 and closed in 2005. I used to buy vegetables there (and once, a Christmas tree, I think). The shutdown seemed to happen quite abruptly but it might just be that I didn't go there for a while and it closed down in the interim. It does seem odd that it appears to have been left in such a hurry, as this set of photos shows.
It seems a shocking waste of public money to have created such a wonderful place for prisoners and vistors and then to simply abandon it after only a few years.
I understand that it has now been sold STC, so its days as a photographer's paradise are numbered.
