How do you start from the beginning? Do you start with a chain??? Please reply as this is an awesome stitch and I would love to make something with it. Perhaps a scarf!

I just started with a row of puff stitches, one directly on top of the next one. I don't know of a written pattern. Someone showed a photo on a group I belong to, and they asked if anyone knew how the stitch was done. I came up with this version.

You should definitely do a YouTube video on this stitch so we can see how you start this pattern and work it. I love it but when I do a search on Puff Stitch it is always constructed on a chain.

I have only ever done the one sample that is posted. It uses a lot of yarn.... Anyway, I think I started with a chain 2, and then I simply started the first puff stitch by pulling up a loop and doing a yarn over and inserting my hook in the second chain from the hook , etc, and completed a puff stitch. There was no long chain, just the starting chain 2 so I'd have somewhere to put the base of the puff stitch.

:) Lovely stitch.. also, thank you for breaking down the mechanics. I think I can figure it out from your description.
