Im Wayes, a mother of 13

Im Wayes, a mother of 13

Im Wayes and her husband stayed when the floods came and moved their house up the hill to the new village of Tal 'Abr. Today, her family no longer has a right to use the water of the dam reservoir. Instead they use brackish groundwater, which means they can no longer grow vegetables. "Before we could grow tomatoes, aubergines, beans, potatoes. We had piles of fuul, so much we didn’t know what to do with it. The land and the river fed us. Now, because the water we bring up from the well is brackish – it is bad for the crops. We can’t grow vegetables anymore. We only grow cotton, wheat and barley.
