Steam Pipe 2

Its inconceivable that two people climbed out of this truck while a column of scalding steam was engulfing the site.

    Background:
On Jul 18, 2007, an 83yr old steampipe, running under Lexington Avenue at 41st St. exploded just before 6pm - during the height of the evening rush hour. One person was killed (some blocks away; of a heart attack) and the driver & passenger in this truck were severely burned. This truck was eventually removed from the crater on July 21/22.

Oh my gosh, what a photograph. It's a really astounding story - I hope the driver and passenger pull through.
