At the risk of off-putting my Flickr friends, yet another dawn from the Headlands. This one is from this morning, first dawn or 2012.

I like going up there this time of year because the sun rises so late, and there's virtually no traffic through San Francisco as everybody is away or off work. I was up there four days this week, and each day was dramatically different: One day a lovely layer of cotton-fog, another clear day, one with some interesting clouds and color, and the one day I dragged my Sweetie and doggies out of bed - it was completely fogged in! Didn't get the camera out, didn't turn it on, nuthin! But that's what I love - you're kinda surprised each time. This morning was wicked windy, so I opted for the wide aspect to minimize wind shake. The sun came up directly over the skyline, and f22 was all I needed for the sun-starburst.

A glorious morning in the Marin Headlands - and I was late to the party! Dozens of happy fotogs out there this morning, and the blanket of fog provided an ever-changing palette. And if that weren't enough, the foghorns were singing back and forth the whole time we were up there! The dawn colors were very vibrant, a little contrast and sharpening was all that was necessary.

I feel so incredibly lucky to call this home...

I forget the name of the fire-road down to Kirby Cove - The fog was constantly moving up and down the cliffs - really quite magical...
