Tandem Amsterdam 1920s

Tandem Amsterdam 1920s

Newspaper clipping from the 1920s. Taken in the "old" Amsterdam Stadium.

My grandfathers father John, my great grandfather, worked in this stadium as a "workman". Jan was one of the many cycling fans who had ensured that the stadium got his wooden cycling track.

When the stadium was completed, it had a horse racetrack around the soccer field! A wish of The Board and The Director. Unfortunately for them the ground was ways too soft. A horse race is therefore never held.

The Stadium was demolished in 1929, after the Olympic Games. The wooden cycle track sold to cycling enthousiasts in Groningen.

1908 Berlin Steglitz - Crop

1908 Berlin Steglitz - Crop

The current Berlin (the area) had a lot of velodromes.
25, since 1882. And often several at once.
Between 1905 and 1910 there was in the Sportpark Steglitz is a very important velodrome. 500 meters long, made of concrete, and with a capacity of over 30,000 spectators.
For the professional stayers a very important race track.

In 1910 Piet Dickentman won the Oberweltmeisterschaft (Upper Weltmeister Schaft) on this track. At this competition, ten former world champions compete.

Later he called this one hundred kilometer race "the most wonderful in my life."

A boring postcard from 1908, respectively a crop of a boring postcard.

Kruger Street Amsterdam /Watergraafsmeer

Kruger Street Amsterdam /Watergraafsmeer

A photo from the younger years of my grandfather. He lived not far from here.

The building on the left has lost its dome. The church tower is no longer there. The street is extended and blocked by a cross street: the Willem Beukelstraat. But the street is still recognizable.

The Rehoboth church was inaugurated in 1908. On 31 December 1971 in this church the last service was held. In 1972 she was aborted.

In 1922 In 1922 this part of the Paul Kruger Street was renamed Zacharias Jansestraat.

After the movie the home trainer matches 1921

After the movie the home trainer matches 1921

Advertisement from the Haarlem's Dagblad 24 november 1921

The first in a series of daily advertisements for matches on the home trainer.
Races which were held in the cinema after the main movie program.

My grandfather is listed 4th. Understandably, the numbers 1 / m 3 have at that time many more victories.

About the cinema program
Giuseppa Iolanda Menichelli (10 January 1890 – 29 August 1984), known as Pina Menichelli, was an Italian actress and silent film star. From 1915 onwards Menichelli made a series of films, often trading on her image as a diva and on her passionate, decadent eroticism. Menichelli became a global star, and one of the most appreciated actress in Italian cinema, before her retirement in 1924, aged 34. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pina_Menichelli)

I cannot find anything on the movie: 'La Donna de Claude Rupe'.
