It doesn't snow often in the region of Japan where I live. Parts of Japan have amazing snowfalls each year where people need to exit and enter their homes via the second storey and their roof may be subject to collapse from the weight of the snow so they must constantly work at removing the new snowfall. But, that is very different from my area of the country where one is more likely to see daffodils blooming mid-winter.

This was the first snow of the season in the region of Japan where I live. I awoke to the sound of rain but on the not so distant mountains there was snow.

Highlighted on the mountainside is the word "cha" in Chinese characters. It means "tea" as this si the major tea growing region of Japan.

Against the snowy background is the Chinese character for "tea" spelled out in tea bushes. In the foreground are tea bushes as they look mid-winter in their dull green state. They turn a vibrant green in spring that is a joy to the soul to behold.

The details of this quilting don't stand out much from a distance so I placed it where I can see it as I pass each day for a closer view and reminder of the work that went into it.

This quilt is quite simple in design so this year I chose to hang it with a bit of embellishment of golden ribbons and a handmade Christmas decoration that doesn't get much attention on the tree. The idea came about as I was packing away the Christmas decorations and changing the wall quilts to reflect a new season.
