Gout: the disease of kings

    Newer Older

This isn't the best illustration because I have to explain that it's a toe, every time I show it to people, and I guess maybe people don't know gout affects your toe. I get the gout real bad when I eat Indian food, or drink a couple gallons of malt beverages, or a couple bowls of eel. Sucks because my feet are permantently fucked up and I probably will never be able to run again (without dumping 20 grand on surgery).

And here's my gout page www.dancentury.com/thegout.html which has a list of my ways to avoid it.

Beer is my downfall it seems... which sucks because I like it, but not as much as I like my toe not to hurt! I'm an admin for a group called Gouty Arthritis, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

I think this would be a great group icon for the Gouty Arthritis group - do you mind if I use it as such?

      I don't mind.

I have gout right now! Blaming the fish I ate last week, and weeks of drinking milk infused coffee for the previous 8 weeks.

I have it now as well.
      Painfull.
I waited three weeks and it got worse until I went to the doctor and he prescribed COLCHICINE. Works within 2 hours honest to god, side effect were diahrea and sharp stomach pains, It was still worth it. Took about 10 days on pills for it to go completely away.

I drank gallons of Cherry juice it did nothing....

I haven't had it since April. It's looking like I usually get them around April and Thanksgiving. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what triggers it for me. It isn't beer -- over the summer I spent about 200 dollars on yeasty microbrew beer (staycation) and drank it in a few days - no gout. I still haven't tried a candy binge (shouldn't do that though unless I want 'betis), an Indian food binge, or a meat binge.

My doc gave me a med that works like a charm to get rid of it. Yeah, cherries are hit or miss. Trying apple cinder vinegar as well -- really just to flush the system.

My Doctor says that organ meats like sausage are also bad as well as shell fish and beer.
I am now afraid to eat these foods.

I bet everyone is slightly different. Beer seems okay for me, but I don't trust the organ meats or shell fish. That said, I sneak small portions now and then, and treat myself to fish for my birthday and around the holidays.

I have the gout now. I think it was the Courvoisier and Colombian leaf cutter ants that did it.

Last time I had the gout I was on vacation and I decided that I wasn't going to let the gout slow me down. I went on a 150 mile road trip without air conditioning on a 85 degree day, and along the way ate a pail of "licorice cats". My gout was gone in a few hours and did not return. Not I have to wonder if it was the licorice or sweating the poison out.

    12. moonman82 23 months ago | reply

Next time try just the lucorice to isolate your new found cure.

I don't think sweating would help. Mine would not go away for over three weeks without medicine, COLCHICINE.

I have isolated and narrowed down my cause as sausage and shellfish.
Beer nor wine do not cause it at all.

I also think that gout it is like an allegry in that what bothers or cure's one individual may be different for another person.

      It was a strange day.

I had the gout again on Monday after eating 2 packs of hotdogs and an entire Taylor Pork Roll over the weekend. And sopressa.

Monday after work I ate a pail of licorice cats and half a bag of cherries, and today my gout is gone. I'm onto something.

Yo, looked up "licorice cats" and it said it's good for cats, and IS A NATURAL CORTISONE. Heck yeah. Here's the quote: Not only does it taste good to your cat, licorice root is good for you, too. As a natural cortisone, licorice root can be used to soothe itchy kitties with allergies, endocrine (the endocrine gland affects metabolism, growth and mood) and digestive issues, as well as respiratory problems like colds, since it soothes mucus membranes. Other benefits of the licorice root include blood cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be very useful for cats with arthritis.

You are lucky - the anti inflammatory plants seem to work for you a lot better than they have for others. Plus you eat meat. I can't eat any meat.
