Cherry
For Still Life With... Everyone's a Critic theme
Funny story about this shot. I was doing some do/don't photos for a talk I have coming up, and I shot this one as a don't, and then fell in love with it. The don't part is that it bucks the rule of thirds... the cherry itself is dead in the center of the shot. However, because of the reflection, it doesn't feel that way. The reflection (which was a complete accident by the way), which is in the lower 3rd, acutally is the most interesting part of the shot, and gets the appropriate focus because the cherry is centered. Or, at least that's my theory! :-)
I had to do some "dusting" on the shot because the cherry was kind of gritty. I really should have done that before, rather than cleaning it up in photoshop, but then I had the shot and it was too late for that. Really, the shot would have been much better with a fresher looking cherry in general.
Also, there's a little highlight on the lower right corner of the cherry that I find a bit distracting, but it's not too bad.

i think the condition of the cherry adds to the photograph... but I agree with you, the reflection is great and so is the photo! i love the blue background too

I like the way you can see the cherry from two different perspectives in one shot. It's not so much a reflection, as it is a second image. You can't tell how curved the stalk is until you look underneath.
I'm going to be really controversial about the whole "Fruit shouldn't be perfect thing" - I think Cherries should be - Given their sexual purity connotations.
Very brave, very nice shot.

it's in our anomalies, that we are beautiful.
the same applies to miscellaneous fruit as well.

The rule of thirds isn't a law or anything.... in fact, it's barely a rule. You can point your camera at anything, you know?
Oh, and the colors here are perfect. No other cherry would do ; )
